Adoption Facilitators / Networkers

Please do your research whenever you work with an adoption professional.  Nurture Adopt is not responsible for any outcome in working with adoption professionals listed on our site.

In the following states, it is illegal to use a facilitator.  If you live in one of these states, please only use a licensed agency or attorney to pursue your adoption.  This is a preliminary list and we have have missed some.  Please check the laws in your state for facilitators and expectant mother expenses.

Be very cautious in trying to circumvent your state's laws on facilitators by using other state laws, finalizing elsewhere, etc. as your state will receive ICPC paperwork and you do not want CPS involved in your private adoption.  HOWEVER, the way around the state laws (which is how the facilitators do placements in the states where it is illegal) is to have the adoptive family finalize in the state the baby is born/mother resides because then the complete adoption is done in a different state and you follow that states laws.

I also am aware of someone from Michigan who did this, found their adoption situation through a facilitator, finalized in another state and filed the fees for that on their taxes....... caught up with them. Not only could they NOT included that on the adoption tax credit but they ended up being investigated by DHS and lived in fear for several months of losing their child!!!
