When Adopted Toddlers Reject Their Parents

House of Rage

 by Marta Whitney

Dents in the cupboards
Holes in the doors.
Gems of our lives.
Smashed on the floor.

Holiday memories,
Shattered once more.
Windows are broken
Walls scratched and torn

Our lives are shattered,
Tattered and worn.
He rages and rages
With hatred and scorn.

Will life ever feel
All cozy and warm?
And the feeling of tension
Be gone with the storm?

Will it ever stop raging.
Taking all in its path.
This storm of rage
Will it ever be past?

Its victims are many.
That live in this family
Some manage to escape
But not very many

When storm's eye is present
And the waters are calm
All things are more pleasant
We breathe deep and long.

But suddenly now
Just as quick as the calm.
Rage churns in a second
And takes us all down.

I'm praying one day
The storm will be calmed.
And blow far away
Far away from us all.

And over our home
A rainbow will stand
The rage will be gone
He will hold out his hand

Peace and love will abide
For as long as it can.
I pray it's forever
With God on our side.

And the peace of his love
Will grow and survive.
